        Ingredients

        • 200g (1 cup) short-grain white or brown rice

        • 100g (3.5 oz) shiitake mushrooms, sliced

        • 15ml (1 tbsp) soy sauce
        • 5ml (1 tsp) sesame oil
        • 2 cloves garlic, minced
        • Salt and pepper to taste

        • Vegetable oil for cooking

        Instructions

        Step 1: Prepare the Rice

        Begin by rinsing the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a rice cooker or medium saucepan, combine the rice with 500ml (2 cups) of water. Cook according to the rice cooker’s instructions or bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and simmer for about 18-20 minutes or until all the liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender.
